Nine teams took to the pool—split into two groups—at Walsall Gala Baths as the West Midland Region hosted the 2025 U14 Boys Water Polo Inter-Regional Championships (6–7 December).
From the very first match, it was clear the Tigers were in for a tough weekend. After their opening two games, the boys knew they had to win their next two to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
Sunday proved to be the turning point. With impressive wins over East Midlands and Scotland, the Tigers finished runners-up in their group and secured a place in the semi-final against London.
London had gone unbeaten all tournament, and the semi-final was a hard-fought battle. The NW Tigers edged ahead, winning by a single goal to book their spot in the final.
The final saw them face the East—a team they had drawn 6–6 with on Saturday. After the first quarter ended 0–0, it was clear this was going to be an incredibly tight contest. After four intense quarters, the score remained locked at 2–2, sending the match to penalties.
What followed was a nail-biting shootout. Goalkeeper Caelan Mathewson produced a phenomenal performance, saving all four of the East’s penalties. George James and Alfie Doncaster kept their nerve, scoring for NW to seal a 4–2 victory and secure the championship.
South West Sharks 7–5 East Midlands
North West Tigers 6–6 East
Scotland 0–2 East
North West Tigers 4–4 South West Sharks
North West Tigers 10–4 East Midlands
