Artistic Swimming Regional Games – Congratulations

For the 2024/25 season, the North West Region ran 3 full day camps for 30 selected swimmers from the across the region’s clubs.

15 athletes were chosen from that group to represent the region at the Regional Games in Bristol on 30th May 2025

At the Regional Games, artistic swimmers from England’s 7 Swim England regions compete against each other. Athletes who are part of the GB pathway also take part in the competition but are scored separately.

Lead NW Coach Jess Fletcher chose 4 athletes from the team to perform a land routine video that requires strength, flexibility and control. The gymnastic sequence was filmed and judged prior to the main competition.

On competition day, the 120 selected athletes took part in a figure competition (the technical part of the sport).

After a quick lunch break and the opportunity to watch some amazing routines from across the GB pathway, the 8 fastest swimmers from each region raced against each other in a very loud & fun 8 x 50m relay race.

At the end of the competition, the GB swimmers carried on training and the region’s gathered around to here the results.

Representing North West in the land video and achieving an amazing 1st place were Isabella Whittle, Millie Maw, Zosia’s Holyniewska (City of Salford) & Agatha Weaver (City of Preston).

In the figure competition, the region had 3 swimmers in the top 10! Agatha Weaver (City of Preston) came 3rd, Ysabel Brook (City of Salford) came 4th and Skyla Layton (Denton ASC) came 7th.

Our relay team were Agatha Weaver (City of Preston), Isabella Maw, Isabella Whittle, Ysabel Brook, Zosia Holyniewska (City of Salford), Skyla Layton, Sadie Thorp (Denton ASC) & Sofia Laycock (Stockport Metro). The team finished 5th.

Karen Thorpe, head of GB Artistic Swimming, announced the overall results in reverse order. The NW coaches and swimmers were listening intently as Karen listed the other regions… The realisation hit slowly… We had won!

A massive congratulations to the athletes, Lead Coach Jess Fletcher, Coaches Elizabeth Fitzgerald and Caitlyn Brook, as well as our fantastic volunteer workforce (parents) on this outstanding result.

Now time to start thinking about next year!
