The U16 Open Inter-Regionals took place at the Liverpool Aquatic Centre over the weekend. The North West team competed in Division One, with a relatively young squad, including six players competing a year above their age group.
Their first game was against the South East, and it remained close throughout. The North West team had to play four minutes with a man down but dug deep to secure an 8-6 victory. The next match was against the top-ranked West Midlands. Despite a strong start and taking an early lead, the North West ultimately faced a disciplined and robust opponent, resulting in a 12-6 defeat.
On Sunday, the North West rebounded with a commanding 15-4 win over Ireland, boosting morale ahead of the final game against the South West. A win would secure a silver medal, while a draw would mean bronze. The North West dominated for most of the game, holding a six-goal lead at the end of the third quarter. However, the South West mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter, equalizing in the last 30 seconds to secure a draw. This resulted in a bronze medal finish for the North West.
Yarolsav Shemanov was voted the MVP for the North West.
