At the start of 2019, Swim England launched the Coaching and Teaching Register. This covers all coaches and teachers operating within our affiliated clubs, regardless of qualification or discipline. There has been more than 8,000 coaches and teachers from clubs across the country signing up.
Analysis of the coaching and teaching register has shown that a number of clubs have teachers/coaches that either have no DBS check registered or have one that is more than three years old. Both of these scenarios are not complaint with Swim England’s Child Safeguarding Policies and Procedures as outlined in Wavepower.
Clubs can check this information via the Coaching and Teaching Register element of the Online Membership System (OMS) system.
Individuals who are required to have a DBS check must have also completed an approved child safeguarding training within a reasonable timescale of taking up this position. If any coaches or teachers do not have a safeguarding qualification then please see our Volunteer Training or Coaches/Teachers CPD’s list of events.
If a coach or teacher has completed their safeguarding training and it doesn’t appear on the OMS Coaching and Teaching register then proof of training can be sent to renewals@swimming.org, and the information will then be added to their record.
More information about the Coaching and Teaching Register can be found here.
Please can all clubs check their submission and ensure that all coaches and teachers operating within their club have a valid and in date DBS no later than 31st October 2019.
