The Swim England North West Regional Diving Skills event for 2023 took place at Ponds Forge, Sheffield this weekend. This event provides athletes with an opportunity to qualify for the National Final which will take place later in the year.
Swim England North West would like to thank Swim England North East Region for all their help in both supporting and organising the event on behalf of the North West for 2023 whilst the Manchester Aquatic Centre continues to undergo refurbishment. The Region would also like to thank all the volunteers for their time and support to ensure the event ran smoothly, without these volunteers events like these would not be able to run.
We would also like to thank Carol Hughes, SENW President for 2023-2024 for attending the event and presenting medals to the athletes.
Attending the event this year for the North West Region were 10 divers from Burscough Diving Club – competitors from around the North East were also invited to take part resulting in over 100 athletes competing throughout the day’s events.
Athletes taking part in the event are all aged between 8 to 15 years and are required to dive 4 separate times (12 dives in total) over the following 3 heights; Poolside, 1m, and 3m. In order for athletes to qualify for the National Skills final taking place in July, athletes accumulate points over the 12 dives, if they achieve the required accumulated points they automatically qualify for the National Final. Burscough Diving Club were delighted that 4 of the divers taking part achieved the required qualifying scores in their category to reach the National skills final in July. In addition to this, all ten divers attending the event returned with medals and a large number of Personal Best Scores were achieved.
The results achieved by the North West divers at this event were outstanding, especially due to the fact that the pool in which they train only have 1m diving boards and the current temporary lack of alternative facilities due to refurbishment here in the Region. Our North West divers will shortly have the opportunity to possibly go on to better their scores and achieve more National Qualifiers by taking part in the Swim England North East Regional Diving Skills event in Leeds.
