It was with great sadness that we shared the news of the passing of Swim England Talent team member Fred Furniss.

Fred was the National Talent Officer, Pool Lead with Swim England Talent team and was often seen on poolside at both National and Regional events.

As a valued member of both Swim England and within the swimming community,  Fred supported and guided swimmers, coaches and clubs within the North West Region over the last five years though his immense passion for the sport and shared expertise and knowledge. Fred supported individuals right through from individual club visits to phase 1 camps on the performance pathway. His undeniable love for the sport has made a massive contributions to anyone and everyone he met.

FURNISS – FREDERICK PAUL ( FRED )

Passed away peacefully in the Northern General Hospital on the 9th July 2018, aged 64 years.

Dearly loved Partner to Helen, Dad to Paul, Mark and Tom. Devoted Brother to Kath, Von and twin Brother Bill. Loving Grandad, Uncle and Nephew.

Fred dedicated his life to swimming and touched the lives of many swimmers, coaches, parents and volunteers.

Funeral Service to be held at City Road Crematorium on Wednesday 1st August at 3.00pm for 3.15pm service.

After the Service everyone is welcome to join the family at the Sitwell Arms Hotel, 39 Station Road, Renishaw, Sheffield S21 3WF

The family have requested for family flowers only, but any kind donations will be split between Rheumatoid Arthritis and Pulmonary Fibrosis can be can be given on the day or sent to W.Simpson & Son, 103 Fitzwalter Road, S2 2SP. Helen is hoping we will all be able to attend. She is also looking for any amazing photos of Fred. If you have any can you forward to the Regional office we will ensure she receives them.

She also mentioned she would love to meet us all after the funeral. She has heard so much about the North West Region but not met us in person!
