Swim England North West were pleased to support the inaugural MAN UP Water POLO event which took place at Salford Quays on Saturday 4th August 2018. This event was to pilot a fun and entertaining water polo competition to showcase the discipline in a more visible and public arena with an aim to raise its profile and attract new people to the sport.
With the sun shinning and inviting water, the event was a huge success, with a footfall over the five hour period of around 2000 people stopping to observe the event and the matches.
The competition saw eleven teams enter with a total of 129 players. Congratulations to the following North West Teams;
- Stretford Swimming & Water Polo club came second in the Men’s competition, followed by City of Chester in third.
- Warrington All Stars beat Tyldesley 5-2 in the final of the Women’s competition, with Liverpool Liverbirds coming third.
- Bridgefield Swimming & Water Polo took home the win over Radcliffe Swimming & Water Polo club in the Junior competition.
Social Media was a hive of activity for the day with many complimentary comments. Castleford Water Polo quoted “Amazing day. Thanks to everyone involved in organising the day.”
Our own Tyldesley Swimming & Water polo club tweeted “Absolutely fantastic water polo competition at Salford Quays. Tyldesley ladies came second. Hopefully this will now become an annual event.”
On face book there were a variety of comments and one which sums up the day very well was:- “Brilliant day – great organisation, location and atmosphere. Weather was really good. Hope there’s more to come and it becomes an annual event”
Looking forward to next year.
