The new ‘Swim England Safeguarding in Aquatics’ course is now being delivered by Swim England (all Swim England North West Safeguarding Courses will also consist of the new updated version).

Swim England’s Safeguarding course is bespoke and reflects the needs of a pool environment. The course will help you to understand:

• Explain what safeguarding, child protection and harm means
• Identify key legislation and guidance in relation to safeguarding
• Explain the importance of Swim England’s Wavepower policy and procedures
• Explain what best practice means
• Explain what adult safeguarding means
• State the importance of professional boundaries and position of trust
• Identify the types, signs and symptoms of abuse and harm
• Recognise, react, respond and report concerns

The Swim England Safeguarding Course is a requirement for anyone in a role which requires DBS and Safeguarding – this includes all Masters Sections and Masters Only Clubs.

By the 1st August 2024, ALL Masters Sections and Masters Only Clubs must have the following in place, along with all the required courses/checks:

• Welfare officer – who must have:
  • a ‘Basic’ DBS Check
  • in date Safeguarding Qualification – either direct through Swim England or via Swim England North West
  • Time to Listen course (updated version which includes Adult Safeguarding will be available from June)
  • Welfare Officer Workshop

• Coaches/Teachers – who must have:
  • a ‘Basic’ DBS Check
  • in date Safeguarding Qualification – either direct through Swim England or via Swim England North West
